THE ULTIMATE ICELAND ELOPEMENT GUIDE
Everything you need to know about getting married in one of the wildest places on earth.
Waterfalls. Black sand beaches. Glaciers. Windblown hair. Happy tears. And the person you want beside you through all of it.
Planning an elopement somewhere this incredible can feel a little overwhelming. Where do you go? When should you visit? What should you bring? How do you make an entire wedding day happen in a country you've never been to?
Take a breath. You've got this.
And you don't have to figure it all out alone.
SO, YOU WANT TO ELOPE IN ICELAND?
Maybe a traditional wedding doesn't feel like you.
Maybe you'd rather exchange vows beside a waterfall, explore a black sand beach, or spend your wedding day road-tripping through landscapes that barely look real.
Maybe you want your wedding to feel less like a production and more like an experience you'll talk about for the rest of your lives.
Iceland is pretty damn good at that.
But here's the thing: your elopement doesn't have to be an epic hike or an exhausting race to see every waterfall on the island.
It can be slow. It can be adventurous. It can include your favorite people, a tiny ceremony, a fancy dinner, or a spontaneous stop because the view is too good to drive past.
There's no single right way to do this.
The best Iceland elopement is the one that feels like you.
And that's what we're going to plan.
WHERE TO GO
THE SOUTH COAST
Waterfalls · Glaciers · Black sand
Dramatic scenery, famous landmarks, and lots of variety without needing to circle the entire country. A great starting point for first-time visitors.
VESTRAHORN & STOKKSNES
Mountain silhouettes · Black sand
For couples who want dramatic, cinematic landscapes and the kind of scenery that makes you stop mid-sentence.
NOT SURE WHERE TO GO?
That's what I'm here for.
Tell me what you're picturing: a windswept beach, a waterfall, a mountain backdrop, or a cozy cabin surrounded by absolutely nothing.
We'll start there and build an adventure that makes sense for your priorities, travel dates, and comfort level.
YOU DREAM IT. WE'LL FIGURE OUT THE DETAILS.
WHEN SHOULD WE ELOPE IN ICELAND?
Short answer: it depends on what you want your adventure to look like.
SUMMER | JUNE-AUGUST
Long daylight hours, greener landscapes, and better access to many highland routes when they are open. It's a wonderful season for road trips and longer adventures, but popular places can be busy.
FALL | SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER
Moodier landscapes, changing colors, and darker nights that may offer a chance to see the Northern Lights. Weather and road conditions can become more challenging.
WINTER | NOVEMBER-MARCH
Snowy landscapes, short daylight windows, and Northern Lights possibilities. Winter can be beautiful, but it requires extra flexibility, careful driving plans, and realistic expectations about access.
SPRING | APRIL-MAY
A transition season with changing daylight, weather, and landscape conditions. Some routes and locations may still be inaccessible.
SO, WHICH SEASON IS BEST?
Want long days and a road-trip feel? Let's explore summer.
Want a moodier atmosphere and a chance of Northern Lights? Fall or winter might be worth considering.
Want a particular location? We should check its seasonal access before choosing dates.
There isn't one perfect month. There's a season that fits the experience you want.
Iceland's conditions can change quickly, so we'll keep your plans flexible and check official forecasts and road updates as your trip approaches.
HOW MANY DAYS DO WE NEED?
Please don't fly all the way to Iceland and spend your entire trip racing from one photo location to the next.
You deserve time to actually be there.
3 DAYS -THE SHORT ADVENTURE
Ideal for a focused South Coast trip, a ceremony, and a handful of carefully chosen locations. You'll want to keep driving distances realistic.
5 DAYS - ROOM TO BREATHE
More time for a relaxed elopement day, multiple locations, spontaneous stops, and a little exploring before or after the ceremony.
7–10 DAYS -THE ROAD-TRIP VERSION
A great timeframe to consider if you want your elopement to be part of a bigger Iceland trip. Your exact route will depend on the season and road conditions.
10+ DAYS - LET'S GET EXPLORING
If you want to visit several regions, slow down, take scenic detours, and turn your wedding into a proper adventure, extra days can make a big difference.
MY BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE?
Don't plan your day around how many places you can squeeze in.
Plan it around how you want to feel.
I want you to have time for coffee. Time to take in the view. Time to laugh when the wind does something ridiculous to your hair.
And time to look at each other and realize: holy shit, we're actually here.
WHAT COULD AN ICELAND ELOPEMENT LOOK LIKE?
There is no mandatory timeline. No rule that says you have to hike for six hours or exchange vows at sunrise…. unless that’s your vibe!
Here's one possible way to spend your day:
9:00 AM - SLOW MORNING
Coffee, breakfast, getting ready, and a little time to enjoy where you're staying.
11:00 AM - GETTING READY & DETAILS
Your outfits, rings, handwritten vows, and the little things you'll be glad you remembered.
12:00 PM - FIRST LOOK
A quiet moment together before the adventure begins.
1:00 PM - YOUR CEREMONY
Just the two of you, your loved ones, or whoever you want there.
2:00 PM - EXPLORING
A scenic drive, a short walk, and portraits along the way.
4:00 PM - FOOD, CHAMPAGNE & A BREATHER
Because getting married is exciting, but so is eating something.
EVENING - ONE LAST ADVENTURE
Maybe it's a dramatic coastline, a cozy dinner, or a beautiful place we saved for later in the day.
The exact schedule will depend on daylight, location access, travel time, weather, and the kind of experience you want.
Your wedding is not a photoshoot with a marriage certificate attached.
The photos are part of the experience. They're not supposed to take over the whole thing.
WHY BRING ME?
WHY BRING ME?
YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO POSE.
Actually, please don't.
I'm Lane - a wedding, elopement, and couples photographer with a soft spot for adventurous people, ridiculous landscapes, and photographs that feel like real life.
My job isn't to turn you into two models who happen to be wearing wedding clothes.
It's to help you feel comfortable, give you a little direction when you need it, and let you enjoy the person you're marrying.
When you book me for Iceland, I'm here to help you think through your photography timeline, choose locations that fit your vision, and leave breathing room for the moments you didn't plan.
Think photographer, hype woman, location scout, timeline helper, and professional third wheel.
And yes, I will probably get unreasonably excited about the waterfalls.
Most importantly, I want you to remember more than what your wedding looked like.
I want you to remember how it felt.
THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.
